I did this audacious thing a couple of years ago and founded a non-profit here in Coaldale, Colorado to give voice to our community regarding the dry-up of a VERY special ranch - the CB Ranch.
Today, the Coaldale Alliance has grown to over 100 members (and we're a tiny town of 250 folks!). During this time, we have traversed the waters together including water court (it's a thing!) and we're nearing the finish line.
It's been a tremendous learning experience and community-building opportunity for me. One of the main tenets of our efforts has been an inclusive approach - that is, an approach that recognizes that the table is round and everyone has a seat.
This morning I wrote what I hope to be one of our few remaining updates and "calls to action." I had a little help!
A challenge - Your donation will be matched $1 for $1
To get us to the finish line, we estimate we need to raise our final $3000 to cover our remaining legal fees. If you're interested in supporting our efforts, San Isabel Land Protection Trust has graciously announced they will match your donation $1 for $1 up to $1500. Together, we could raise our remaining $3000. What a win for our efforts!
How to donate
Please send your donation to SILPT by April 15. You may donate online: www.SanIsabel.org or mail to PO Box 124, Westcliffe, CO 81252
While I'm no expert on the history of dry-ups in Colorado, I do feel I can confidently say that what the Coaldale community has done and continues to do with coming together for the good stewardship of the CB Ranch now and into the future is unique.
It's a powerful thing what a group of passionate, kind, and thoughtful people can do.
I'm honored to call Coaldale home.
